About me

I study how we "control" what they consciously experience from moment to moment by shifting their attention. I specifically explore how attention influences what we store into (or experience from) our personal store of memories. I'm generally interested in consciousness, meta-cognition, dreams, and other far-out stuff (like The Cambridge Declaration of Consciousness (2012)).

Out of the lab, I like to do yoga, meditate, scribble in my dream journal...

Research

One branch of my work explores how we use attention to control the things we experience and store into memory. I tackle this topic together with my colleagues in the EPSCoR Attention Consortium. I am also initiating a second line of work, investigating cognitive and perceptual markers of mental illness.

Mentoring

I've been honored to mentor over ten outstanding undergraduates, some of whom are now my co-authors! I also serve as a role model via Letters to a Pre-Scentist, host booths at the Dartmouth Brain Bee, and speak annually at Richmond Middle School.
